About meI am a freelance journalist based in South Portland, Maine. I write for consumer, custom-published and trade magazines, newspapers and other publications.I’m a former Associated Press correspondent and spent 12 years in AP bureaus in New Hampshire, New York and Maine. In my final AP position, I oversaw the wire service’s coverage of the state of Maine. Since launching a freelance career, I’ve written for magazines, including Good Housekeeping and Parenting, and worked as a stringer for the national desk at The New York Times. I wrote a book, The Longstreet Highroad Guide to the Maine Coast, a travel guide that focuses on the natural history of the Maine Coast. I’ve also provided writing services to some commercial and non-profit clients and was the managing editor for The Forecaster, three weekly newspapers in and around Portland. As a writer, my interests run far and wide. I’ve covered politics, crime, business, health and the environment. I can write features and hard news, service pieces and profiles. I’m skilled at explaining complex topics in easy-to-understand language I love researching articles as much as writing them, and I’m great at tracking down sources across the country, from experts in medical research to regular people on the street.
